What is Sleep Apnea?

Sleep apnea is a condition where the upper airway collapses during sleep and causes a partial or complete blockage of airflow.  You consciously have no idea that your body is suffocating.  Your body is deprived of oxygen and the consequences can be fatal.

Could I Have Sleep Apnea?

Most people are clueless as to what happens when they sleep.  You may be told by your bedtime partner that you snore and think it’s just what happens as you get older.  You may wake up with a dull morning headache and blame it on your worn out pillow or mattress.  You may wake up with sore jaws and teeth from clenching or grinding your teeth and attribute it to life’s stressors.  These are just a few examples of dismissing what might be signs of a serious problem that is jeopardizing your overall health.  The root cause of these symptoms, among  those listed below, may be sleep apnea.

  • Snoring
  • High blood pressure
  • Daytime sleepiness
  • Weight gain
  • Anxiety, depression
  • Clenching/grinding your teeth
  • Migraines, dull morning & cluster headaches
  • Acid reflux (GERD)
  • Diabetes
  • Loss of libido

Do I Have Sleep Apnea?

The only way to know if you have sleep apnea is to have a sleep study, but with Sleep Apnea DFW you don’t have to go to a sleep lab to get it done.  Sleep Apnea DFW provides you the very easy to use headpiece to wear in the comfort of your own bedroom without all of the wires, tape, glue, electrodes, and the awkwardness of trying to sleep in an unfamiliar room with a person behind the wall watching you.  After you have slept with the headpiece for 2 nights, we have our sleep physician review the results and provide the diagnosis without having to visit any other place.  It’s that simple.

What Can I Do?

If you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, it is always recommended to wear a CPAP.  However, in order for a CPAP to be absolutely effective, you must wear it every night to sleep.  And if you are like most people, there are at least several nights a week that you won’t wear your CPAP.  These non-compliant days wreck havoc on your body and Sleep Apnea DFW can help.  We make an easy to wear oral appliance and you can comfortably sleep in any position you choose without the noise or hassle of cleaning and wearing a CPAP.
